Pumpkin Patch 2009

  • Sharebar
Today, we went to our local pumpkin patch. A relatively quick drive. I remembered our trip last year when Charlie was just 5 or so months old. It was chilly, we didn’t think to bring a sling or anything. So we carried our little chunker and bundled her up with a blanket.

THIS year. We came better prepared, though still not prepared enough. We didn’t think about how much rain we had gotten…mud. I was wearing my cute new Gretel Crocs {holler Amy!} and was glad. The slight “lift” kept me out of mud danger, and I was able to wipe them clean before getting back in the suburban. Mat’s boots however, well they’re a mess. Charlie was fine – She was slung and bundled up all warm in our BabyWearing Poncho {upcoming review}, quite content and curiously looked around, and being shy once she captured someone’s attention.

We had a blast trying to find the least muddy route to where all the “good” pumpkins were. There was a pathway with about 6 inches of mud that we somehow had to avoid. Adventure! But we eventually found our way, crunching our way through seedlings and vines. I even found a red squash I’ll be cooking up tomorrow with dinner. Mmm yes! I wanted to grab more squash, but it was getting late and Luv was hungry and so were we.
Oh, and the 2nd picture is of her “smelling” the pumpkin. It’s what she does with any produce, a fun practice…just not so fun when the produce has dirt on it.
We were tempted to get a HUGE pumpkin, much bigger than the one she was in last year {here!}.  $40 didn’t quite sit well with us though. These things were ginormous and would fit Charlie juuuust fine. Mat claims he could even fit in one of them… Instead we got a fairly large pumpkin, one medium sized guy, and 6 small ones {different colors}, and the red squash. I love how each pumpkin is unique, I try to find ones that are quirky.

I imagine next year, she will be in the wagon holding on for dear life as we traverse the bumpy patch looking for pumpkins. And I told Mat that next year we will be even better prepared. We’ll bring: rainboots, a bag to put the muddy rainboots in, and normal shoes to put on in the car. Oh and cash for food. They were making hotdogs that smelled Ahhh-mazing! Soon enough we’ll brave the corn field maze :)

Now all that’s left for my Autumn agenda: Apple picking. We’d better hurry too!

Aww, so cute! I feel bad because Roo went to the pumpkin patch with her class so I haven't really felt a need to take Jasper… I know he'd love it, though. Maybe this week.

We haven't been to a real pumpkin patch in years. There aren't any in Florida, because of the weather.
Thanks for sharing such great pictures – great one of her smelling her produce.
